Microsoft Releases Office 2016 for Mac Preview

Posted

If you’re a Mac user, this is an update you’ve been anticipating for many years.

Microsoft has released a preview of its 2016 Office suite for Mac. The update includes changes to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Outlook. It’s an update that’s long overdue (the last one happened in 2010). It improves many of the design and function complaints users have had in the past, and comes with a completely new user interface. A new collaborative editing feature in Word, Excel and PowerPoint let multiple people edit the same document at the same time.

Microsoft also launched two new companion apps for the iPhone: Office Delve and Office 365 Video.

You can download a preview and send Microsoft your feedback (even if you’re not currently an Office 365 user).

We’re excited because the new version is completely powered by the cloud, so documents can be accessed from anywhere from any device. This new version now has a lot of the same functionality that the PC version has, and this is huge. We’re not afraid to say it’s a major improvement.

Here are some of the features you can expect from Office 2016 for Mac:

Word

  • The new version supports macro recording, user information settings in preferences and search for online document templates
  • Extra dictionary options — like choosing a custom one — let you personalize your proofing experience
  • There are improved keyboard shortcuts and support for the popular Windows Word keyboard shortcuts
  • Access to new user information settings in program preferences
